August’s Eternal TTRPG Jam is currently taking submissions until the end of the month (the early hours of September 1st 2026 to be slightly more rpecise). This months theme is ‘Fictional Sports’.

The Eternal TTRPG Jam is a monthly game jam for TTRPG designers to test ideas, experiment with concepts, and an opportunity to be creative. It’s completely optional and some people do most months, others drop in and out depending on their time and interest/inspiration in the months subject, and others lurk, watch, and enjoy the results.

Every month has a new theme, as well as an extra (optional) challenge for designers.

Theme: Fictional Sports

In our world, sports often have their origins in combat. The Olympics, for instance began as a series of martial tests to show the strength of various city states. Whether literal shows of combat prowess, or metaphorical proxies for national or political conflict, both reflect the primacy of military combat in he lives of the participants.

While you craft your own fictional sport, think about the daily lives of those playing and watching it. Consider their jobs, social class, concerns, and interests. Let those attributes guide the specific design of the sport. Create proxies for those activities,. Think of how the sport os regarded culturally. How are the athletes treated? How does the culture define the structure of the sport? Is it played solo or as a team? What are the goals and how are they reached? What is the etiquette of play?

Optional Challenge: Couch Co-Op

This challenge is about emulating the feeling of playing along side another person, working together against a shared challenge. It is about sitting together and facing outward. It is about comradery built by facing an external difficulty together. Where can you as a designer facilitate that feeling? My thought is to create a system that is semi autonomous: that opposes the players without much input on their part, though I’m sure there are many ways to chase this feeling.

So, if the above gets you thinking about a game, setting, one pager advenbture, micro-zine, etc, and you fancy joining in head over to The Eternal Jam August 2026 page on itch.co for more information. The event is hosted by Rowan Sender and the Jam also has its own Discord channel.
