Kobold Press is best known for its extensive D&D-compitable catalogue and its own Tales of the Valiant roleplaying game, but next year sees them dipping quite a substantive toe into new waters, with the announcement of their first Shadowdark RPG project.

Dark Halls: A Shadowdark RPG Expansion is scheduled to launch on Kickstarter in 2027. The project is not for a single book but an entire range, including two hardcover books, a series of zines, new player options, and monsters adapted from Kobold Press’s back catalogue. Kobold say the books will feature black-and-white line art, inspired by its earlier Warlock publications.

Shadowdark creator Kelsey Dionne will be working with, and contributing to, the Kobold team which will also include contributions from a range of existing Kobold writers and designers. Editor Jeff Quick has said:

Kobold has our own batch of modern, streamlined game material, so it was a gimme that we could cook it down to fit Shadowdark. But we didn’t want to ape the good work Kelsey had already done, so we called ours Dark Halls. It’s not a different game at all, but it’s a Kobold take on Shadowdark. We already love playing with it, and we hope you will too.

Kobold Press plans to share an early-acess PDF before the Kickstarter campaign, which you can already sign up to the pre-launch page to keep track of updates.
