Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy The Wheel of Time is finally on it’s way to grace board game nights. Having previously been seen in gaming circles as a Collectible Card Game (1999 by Precedence Entertainment) and as a Tabletop Roleplaying Game (2001 by Wizards of the Coast) the series has surprisingly never been the subject of a board game until now. Dire Wolf Digital, best known for their superb Dune: The Imperium and Clank! board games, have announced War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time, a two-player board game.

A detailed board game scene features a colorful map depicting the land of the Two Rivers, with various regions and locations marked. Prominent on the map are several unpainted miniatures representing characters from The Wheel of Time, including a figure holding a spear and another with a staff, alongside a horse. In the foreground, several character cards are displayed, showcasing allies such as Sheriam Bayanar and Bain and Chiad, each with distinct artwork and names.

War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time chronicles the epic copnflict between the forces of light and darkness as two players wage war across a land of magic, ancient prophecies, and powerful armies set to save the world… or destroy it.

There are two ways to fight the War of the Dragon: Hero Mode, recommended for new players, and Epic Mode, where you take control of massive armies.

Both game modes span the years from The Battle of Two Rivers depicted in The Shadow Rising, and the end of the Third Age. Hero Mode includes only the preparations for the Last Battle, while Epic Mode brings the entire cataclysmic confrontation right to your tabletop.

The game will be coming to Kickstarter later this year and will come in two versions - one with cardboard standees and the other one using miniatures. If you sign up to the Kickstarter prelaunch you will also receive two free promo Ally cards, Hopper, He Who Soars and Bela, Loyal Steed, when you back the campaign at The Dragon Reborn pledge tier.
