(Crowdfund Quest) Vermines - Deck Building Game

Crowdfund Quest is a new column that takes us on daily expedition into tabletop crowdfunding with a look at a current project in the tabletop gaming world.

Originally released in French in 2021, Vermines is a 2-4 player deckbuilding game where you play insect cultists who need to accumulate the souls of sacrifced followers to be the first to summon your god who will then unleash destruction on the land.

Packed full of original illustrations the art is very distinctive and certainly adds flavour to the game.

In the realm of the bees, where all the insects live in harmony, strange characters have appeared at the royal court.
They are cult leaders that worship old occult gods and are determined to invoke them to take over the kingdom. But to achieve that, they need soul sacrifices. A lot of sould sacrifices. The noblest the sacrified insect is, the more valuable the sould is. Which one of these cult leaders will be the first to gather enough souls to summon its god and spread chaos all across the world?

During the game you purchase Partisan and Item cards to create your deck. Each Partisan has a soul value and be sacrificed to earn souls after being played. At the beginning of the game you choose a Cultist board and 6-card starter deck and a God board, which you’ll use to track Eloquence and Souls.

There are four Cultist families available to choose from : Musca, Coccinus, Scarabeus, and Grillus.

There is a Market area and a Court area in the centre of the table, with 3 revealed cards in each area. The players draw 3 cards from their own decks to start the game. Each player also gains 3 Eloquence points at the beginning of their turn.

During your turn you have three actions that you can carry out in any order.

1) Play as many item and/or partisan cards from your hand.

2) Purchase as many items and/or parrtisan cards from the market or the court.

3) Recycle as many item cards from your hand by sending them back to the market and getting Eloquence in exchange.

Once you have completed all your actions your discarded items are moved to your discard pile and you dfraw up to 3 cards to fill your hand. If your deck is empty you shuffle your discard pile and it becomes your new draw deck.

When a player reached 100 sacrificed souls the end of the game begins. You finish the round so everyone has played the same number of turns and the player with the most sacrificed souls is declared the winner.
