Legendary TSR Artist Clyde Caldwell Gets a Career Retrospective Hardcover

A hardcover book titled "The Art of Clyde Caldwell - Legacy Anthology" features a striking cover illustration. The artwork depicts a powerful female figure in a revealing outfit, wielding a staff with a glowing orb, alongside a large, menacing red dragon in the background. The book's spine and cover are adorned with ornate designs and the title is prominently displayed in gold and green lettering.

Body

For over 40 years Clyde Caldwell has been producing hundreds of stunning cover paintings. His work has graced books, magazines (Heavy Metal, Dragon, Dungeon, and more) computer games, calendars, and RPGs. He’s best known, in gaming circles, for his work on Dungeons & Dragons for TSR in the 80’s.

A dynamic fantasy illustration features a fierce green dragon with prominent teeth and large wings, set against a dark background. In the foreground, a muscular warrior clad in armor holds a sword, flanked by a powerful female character with long blonde hair and a regal outfit. Additional elements include a skull, two stone towers, and a knight on horseback, all contributing to a rich tapestry of adventure and heroism.

He was cover artist for the fantastic D&D Gazetteer series, Ravenloft, the 1987 Dragonlance Calendar and 1990 Forgotten Realms Calendar, and loads of novels and covers for TSR’s Dragon and Dungeon magazines.

A dark, brooding figure stands on a stone balcony, draped in a flowing black cape with a red lining, overlooking a misty landscape. Two small, winged creatures perch beside him, while a castle tower with a pointed roof looms in the background, illuminated by a full moon and streaks of lightning. Bats fly in the night sky, adding to the ominous atmosphere of the scene.

Now his career is being collected in to a Kickstarter exclusive retrospective book, The Art of Clyde Caldwell Legacy Anthology. The book, available only as a physical Hardcover (signed or unsigned options), will consist of around 200 full colour pieces of his work, spanning the breadth of his career.

The kickstarter is live now and runs until mid-April, with a fulfilment date of December. The book is not cheap, but promises to be high quality and packed full of some gorgeous, and iconic, art.

A fierce warrior with a long, red beard and horned helmet kneels in the foreground, wielding an axe and shield, surrounded by skulls in a snowy landscape. Behind him, a group of adventurers, including a cloaked figure and a young boy, traverse the rugged terrain, with mountains visible in the background. A large tree looms nearby, adorned with more skulls, adding to the ominous atmosphere of the scene.
