Games Workshop Preview Warhammer Quest: Darkwater
Body
Games Workshop have given us a preview of their forthcoming Warhammer Quest release.
Entitled Dark Water, this new release further expands GW’s catalogue of board games. Players guide a group of heroes, sellswords and other such chancers as they fight to defend the Jade Abbey—home of the ‘life-giving Everspring’—from the nefarious Gelgus Pust and his followers.
This brand-new game can be played by up to four players; a solo mode is also available for those of you who don’t have any friends. It is also ‘designed to support one-off skirmishes or longer campaigns’.
This box includes 49 miniatures, including seven heroes and their spirit guide, plus the villains Gelgus Pust, Belga the Cystwitch, Mulgoth the Cleaver, and Shaman Foulhoof; these miniature miscreants are backed-up by a slew of creatures including two Cankerborn, three Blight Templars, eight Pestigors, 14 Pox-Wretches and six Mire Kelpies.
Adventures are played on a lay-flat map book, and the passage of play is decided by event cards, encounter cards and boss encounter cards; these are ‘split across three different acts’. Gameplay also makes use of various hero and enemy cards, reward cards, dice, and oodles of tokens.
A quick start version of the rules is provided for those of you who want to dive straight in or more easily teach the game to friends and family. The full, 36-page rulebook includes skirmish and campaign modes.
