Free League Publishing has opened pre-orders for three new Vaesen products released on October 28; The Mythic Carpathia expansion, a revised Core Rulebook, and a Starter Set all arrive together, like a spooky halloween bus on the express route to madness.
KFC - Kids Fried Carpathian style
Dragging players eastward into Central and Eastern Europe, Mythic Carpathia swaps the Nordic fjords and trolls for vampires, rusalkas, and Baba Yaga (a chicken-legged-hut dwelling hag that flies around in a pestle and mortar deep frying children. I kid you not). Centering on Prague with three mysteries spanning Ukraine and Transylvania the expansion includes sixteen new Vaesen illustrated by Johan Egerkrans, Anton Vitus, and Francesca Baerald. Rather than sticking fangs and a pumpkin on existing content, the cultural heavy lifting has been handled by a team of Polish and Ukrainian writers so hold onto your hats as slavic mythology gets weird fast (see huts spinning around on chicken legs).
Bargain bucket
If you’re new to the world of Vaesen then the Starter Set has everything you need to... err... get started; condensed rules, five pre-generated characters, custom dice, and The Haunting of Castle Gyllencreutz mystery. For veterans, a revised Core Rulebook streamlines mechanics and is compatible with your existing supplements.

A tall, skeletal figure stands menacingly in a graveyard, wearing dark, tattered clothing and a hooded cloak. The character has a gaunt face with exaggerated features, including sharp cheekbones and a wide, sinister grin. In the background, weathered gravestones are partially obscured by mist, enhancing the eerie atmosphere of the scene.
An open book displays two pages featuring the chapter titled "A Treaty of Blood." The left page includes an illustration of a fierce, black creature with sharp teeth and a red orb in its mouth, framed by a decorative circular border. The right page contains text detailing the background of the mystery, with headings and paragraphs formatted for easy reading. The overall design is elegant, with a dark background that enhances the visual elements.
A book cover for "Vaesen: Mythic Carpathia" features a menacing creature with bat-like wings and a humanoid form, perched on a gothic spire. The background showcases a full moon illuminating a dark sky filled with bats, while a silhouette of a castle and mountains adds to the eerie atmosphere. The title "VAESEN" is prominently displayed at the top, with "MYTHIC CARPATHIA" at the bottom, all set against a muted color palette that enhances the spooky theme.
An open book displays two pages featuring a character profile for a "Vampire Hunter." The left page includes a list of threats and details about the character's background, while the right page features an illustration of the vampire hunter, dressed in a long coat and hat, holding a sword and a lantern. The overall design incorporates gothic elements, with decorative borders and a skull icon, enhancing the dark fantasy theme of the Vaesen game.
