New Edition of The Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game on the Horizon

My money's on the elves...

A new edition of The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game is imminent.

As revealed yesterday by Games Workshop, this new edition of their popular wargame will feature updated rules and new editions of the Armies of The Lord of the Rings and Armies of The Hobbit. As with the outgoing edition, these will be based on Peter Jackson's respective movie trilogies. These new editions are said to include updated rules and revised profiles for all of Games Workshop's range of models.

Whilst the announcement was pretty light on details, Games Workshop have promised a lot more information and previews 'in the coming weeks'. Needless to say, we'll bring you all the latest news here on Tabletop Sentinel.

It's All Go in the Iron Kingdoms!

The Strangelight Pitch

There's been a marked increase in Iron Kingdoms-related content since Steamforged Games acquired the Warmachine IP. Not only is there the ongoing Kickstarter for the Strangelight Workshop RPG to consider, but we can now enjoy a weekly drop of new material via Steamforged Games' Warmachine Wednesdays updates.

This week's update brings us a peek at the Maelstrom. A colossal machine fielded by the Cygnar faction, the Maelstrom promises to transform warfare in the Iron Kingdoms. Whilst the update doesn't feature this new machine in tabletop miniature form, it does include some lovely concept art (which we have included in this post; you're welcome!). We look forward to seeing one of these on a tabletop in due course ... even if we're not so keen on fighting against one!

Meanwhile, Steamforged Games' Kickstarter for the Strangelight Workshop RPG is now in its final 48 hours. A new game set in world of Warmachine, Strangelight Workshop uses 5e to bring a blend of the steampunk shenanigans we've grown use to via the Iron Kingdoms RPG with the supernatural investigations and interventions normally reserved for Call of Cthulhu.

The campaign has already reached its funding target and is now unlocking stretchgoals. At the time of writing, however, there is only 43 hours left in which to pledge ... so get your steam-powered skates on!

Samurai Wargaming Just Got EPIC!

Wargames Atlantic Grand Battle Scale Samurai Sprue

Do you like wargaming in the age of the samurai, but want to go large? Then you're in luck, because Wargames Atlantic have got some really small samurai with your name on them.

Released as part of their Grand Battle Scale range, these two new boxes of ashigaru and samurai contain more than 300 and 190 hard plastic, 10mm scale soldiers respectively. The ashigaru are equipped with pikes, pole arms, longbows and muskets, whilst the samurai are packing pikes, pole arms, longbows and swords. Both boxes also include casualties to be used as markers or additions to scenic bases.

These new sets are currently available on pre-order and will ship on 5th August.

Judge Dredd Lone Wolves on the Prowl

Judge Dredd Lone Wolves

The Warlord Games new and pre-order releases page is always a hive of activity. That is especially true now Warlord have announced Hail Caesar Epic Battles and the third edition of their flagship title, Bolt Action. But tucked away amongst the various pre-order bundles for these two big-hitters is a single, but no less intriguing, new release for the Judge Dredd miniatures game.

Entitled Lone Wolves, this new set includes five villains and anti-heroes from the world of Judge Dredd. Three of the characters included - the 'superhero' Mega-man, the vigilante Blanche Tatum (also known as 'the Excecutioner') and Dredd's brother Rico - are memorable villains in one-off stories. Only the martial artist Stan Lee (no, not that Stan Lee!) and vampiric agent of the Vatican, Devlin Waugh, have made repeated appearances. This doesn't detract from what is a cool - and welcome - addition to the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game.
