One Step Closer to CATAN: Linkin Park Hosts Fan Gaming Event in Hamburg

Bands go on tour. Bands have a lot of spare time on their hands. Many bands end up gaming to kill time. For most this is computer games but a growing number have small boardgame collections tucked away on their tour buses. Some bands don’t seem content with this though, and Linkin Park teamed up with Catan GmbH for Linkin Park Catan, a fan club exclusive games night, during the bands From Zero World Tour in Germany whilst playing a couple of concerts in Hamburg.

The band had a few days between their Stockholm gig on 29th May and two nights in Hamburg on 1st and 2nd June, so they hosted an exclusive gamees night event in Hamburg for their Linkin Park Underground members. The event was free, although you had to pre-book, and was built around a live session of CATAN-Connect, the massive multiplayer variant of the board game. The event was hosted by Benjamin Teuber (son of Catan creator Klaus Teuber) who is the Co-CEA of Catan GmbH and the designer of CATAN-Connect.

CATAN-Connect is designed specifically for large groups, letting everyone play simultaneously on the same shared island rather than taking turns. Multiple Connect games can be combined for rounds of any size, with common dice phases and simultaneous action keeping the energy up and the play moving fast. It’s a different experience from the classic game and sounds like a blast for a large group. I’d certainly like to catch it in action at a convention at some point.

The event, which was attended by Linkin Parks Joe Hahn who joined in the game, had a bunch of exclusive Linkin Park Catan merchandise that was given away to those lucky enough to atttend.
