The image features a muscular barbarian character named Cormac the Slayer, standing triumphantly over a pile of defeated foes. He wields a large, bloodied sword, and his body is splattered with red, suggesting a recent battle. Cormac has long, dark hair and a fierce expression, embodying a classic fantasy warrior aesthetic. The background is a muted gradient, enhancing the focus on the character, while the title "Cormac the Slayer" is prominently displayed at the top in bold, stylized lettering. TAGS Fest: Finding Your People in Edinburgh's Small Press Revival

The TAGS Fest, a Tabletop and Graphic Storytelling Festival, is set to take place at Edinburgh's Fruitmarket on October 25th and 26th, 2025. This year marks its third iteration, expanding to a full weekend and featuring over 50 independent creators and speakers who have carved out their own paths outside mainstream publishing.

The festival aims to foster community and connection, especially for those in Scotland's independent publishing scene, which has faced significant challenges. Attendees can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with opportunities to meet local authors, play games, and engage in discussions about creative careers.

The event will also include a Board Game Zone curated by Ancient Robot Games, offering a variety of games for drop-in play. With free entry and no tickets required, TAGS Fest is designed to encourage people to come together, share their passions, and find a sense of belonging in a supportive environment.

There are fewer and fewer spaces where people can come together, especially for free. Scotland's small press community has weathered chronic underfunding whilst watching local creative spaces vanish beneath spiralling costs. Convention tables that foster careers have become unaffordable, many of the stepping stones that turn hobbyists into professionals have simply ceased to exist.
