Free League Reveal 10th Anniversary Symbaroum TTRPG Plans

Free League Publishing’s dark fantasy tabletop roleplaying game Symbaroum is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its international release this year. To mark the milestone Free League are launching a brand new Kickstarter on 19th May revisting the world of Symbaroum through revised core books and a brand new setting expansion designed to welcome first-time players, as well as offering longtime fans more to explore.

While keeping a standalone Core Rulebook, the content of the current four core books (Core Rules, Advanced Player’s Guide, Game Master’s Guide, and Monster Codex) will be reworked and revised into three volumes to smooth out the edges and make the material more user friendly.

The Kickstarter campaign will be offering the following four books:

• Core Rulebook: Provides everything needed to bring Symbaroum to the table, including a tutorial adventure, guidelines for creating homebrew scenarios, and an introduction to the dark and foreboding Davokar region.

• Gamemaster’s Guide: Offers advanced guidance for running Symbaroum, including support for campaign building, adventure creation, and optional rules for large-scale battles, advanced traps, and social scheming,

• Davokar Creature Codex: A detailed bestiary presenting the monsters and people players will encounter on their travels, featuring updated practical stat blocks while building on the legacy of the award-winning Monster Codex.

• City States of Vendilyn - A Ravaged Realm: A full-colour hardcover volume introducing the City States of Vendilyn as a campaign setting where survivors struggle to endure after the once peaceful realm was devasted by the malevolent elves of Duskwood.

The City States of Vendilyn brings all new content, and a brand new region of the world, for players to explore. Not too much information is available as yet, but Free League have given us the following so far:

Located several weeks’ ride southwest of Davokar and Ambria, the Vendilyn Realm has long been known as peaceful, prosperous and culturally advanced. But little more than two years ago, the malevolent elves of Duskwood finally breached the region’s western defenses. In the span of a few months, much of the region was completely and utterly devastated.

The remaining survivors have barely begun to recover, let alone understand what really happened, and why. They are cramped together in an area framed by two rivers and the ocean shoreline, an area characterized by constant scarcity, severe crowding, lawlessness, and filth. Even if there also persists a precious glimmer of hope, not many survivors would ever consider leaving the sanctuary.

Credible reports are few and far between, but most would agree that outside there is nothing but terror and death - nature warped by elven witchcraft, sprouting sickly growths, malign vegetation, and perverted elemental phenomena; abhorrently twisted lifeforms, hunting to devour or deform anything that would count as normal. But also answers to pressing questions, alchemical marvels, and possibly lost friends and relatives.

While most people in the sanctuary are struggling to survive, a daring few seek to venture into the unknown - some to selfishly plunger abandoned settlements; others to explore and map what is left of the realm,, to establish contact with other survivors, or try and solve the mysteries haunting them all: what really happened, why did the Duskwood Demons attack, and can something be done to restore the land?
