GIRL! YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS!!

RPGWorld is dropping Gossipixie today, a minimalist RPG where you play a gossipy fairy.

This project was created in partnership with Lulu Abe and Hiram Alem for the One Page RPG Jam 2023 on Itch.io, with the theme of secrets and rumors. We made this game thinking about some people’s favorite pastime... gossip (if the shoe fits, babe!).

Today is the anniversary of the coronation of the indestructible Queen Titania, but one of her secrets has leaked—and it could ruin the party. Someone has to take the blame, and preferably NOT YOU, HUN! Lies, chaos, shady schemes, rumors—use everything at your disposal to keep the party from falling apart. Just be careful not to overdo it and draw too much attention to yourself.

This game may look cooperative, but there are no winners—only one loser. It requires at least two people and one die to play.

The game is super simple. Each player creates their Pixie, with a fabulous name and an extra-fancy noble title, chooses or rolls for their Thing (you weren’t invited to this party for nothing, darling), their Karma (everyone has something to hide, and everyone wants something), and introduces themselves to the other players.

Next, choose or roll for the Gossip (what people are saying Titania did that was absolutely terrible), and the Gossipmonger (some other Pixie who would benefit from the Queen’s humiliation). Tell the juicy story, spill the tea, and let the drama begin!

Each turn, one of the players—you decide whether it’s random, rolled for, taken in order, or chosen by the current player—creates an Intrigue by choosing one of the Scenes from the illustration and telling a story to deflect the Gossip and take the heat off Titania.

Then, roll a die (the good old six-sided kind). You can roll extra dice and add their results if, during your turn, you pester the Gossipmonger, use your Trick, or use another Pixie’s Karma. You can roll up to three dice total and add their results together.

BUT! Life isn’t easy for the Pixie spinning the Intrigue. Before seeing the result, the other Pixies judge whether the story sounds suspicious, contradictory, or is taking way too damn long. Each of them may reduce the total by 1, as long as they explain their reasoning.

The Repercussion of the Intrigue depends on the dice result. If the total is lower than the Difficulty, the Bullshitometer gains one mark. Otherwise, the Difficulty increases by one (+1).

If the Bullshitometer doesn’t blow up, another Pixie is chosen and the game continues with a new Intrigue in a new Scene.

Oh, and one more thing: the game starts with a Difficulty of 5, and the Chaos-O-Meter can take three marks before it explodes.

When the Bullshitometer  finally blows, the Pixie whose turn it is must take a dare chosen by the other players (sing a song, do an impression, etc.) or be banished by a furious, offended, and utterly humiliated Titania.

The party may continue—or it may not. You decide, babe.

This game was designed to be played competitively as a group. A game takes about half an hour on average, and the rules are simple enough that even kids can easily join in.
