RPG PDF Spotlights is a new daily look at a recent release for a new tabletop roleplaying game, supplement or scenario, or solo journaling game, that has caught my eye. This isn’t a review, although I hope we can start offering reviews in addition to our news coverage in the future, more of a “hey guys, check this out!” shoutout.

It’s time to choose sides, and that means joining the Underground and fighting against Replicant oppression and the hypocrisies of the justice machine in the Replicant Rebellion expansion for Free League Publishing’s Blade Runner RPG, which is hitting retailers this May.

The Last Starfighter (Universal Pictures, 1984) is a meritocratic, sci-fi-opera western featuring an arcade game in a mundane trailer park - or in my ten year old mind - a chip-shop in Redditch. Unbeknownst to the deep-fryers, the most skilled players were secretly being recruited as pilots for an interstellar war. The ultimate fantasy for everyone who was trapped in the hopeless mundanity of the 8-bit working class: your gaming skills might mean something, someone is watching and you're special. The high-score was a key that could unlock a gateway to another life entirely.
